Alright, it’s time for a personal blog post. I don’t really like blabbing on about myself that much (okay that’s a lie I totally love talking about myself) but I feel like my blog should be more about inspiring others, giving tips, advice etc. That being said, I guess I motivate others by (hopefully) giving a healthy example of how to live an active, fit and balanced life. Oh and many of you have been asking me about it so here goes: What the hell am I doing in Australia anyways?!
Why did I moved to Australia?
Part of my 4-year bachelors degree in Switzerland includes a 6-month administrative internship abroad. Although my degree is in hospitality management, many of you have probably guessed by now that I’m kinda into this whole health & fitness thing, and yeah, working in this industry is pretty much my dream. So when the time came round to chose a place to do my 6-month internship obviously the capital of everything health & wellness: Australia, came to mind. I started playing the find-an-internship game waaay early, cuz no way in hell was I finding something mediocre last-minute. I knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to work in a health & wellness media company based in Australia, near the beach, and that’s exactly what I got.
What do I do?
I work 5 days a week, 9am-5pm, at the Food Matters Headquarters. For those of you that don’t know Food Matters:
a) Where have you been?!
b) Go check em out ASAP –> foodmatters.com
What started off with an inspiring documentary is now a full blown international company with their own line of superfoods, recipe books, e-books, articles published daily and a general support system for anyone going through health troubles or otherwise. Oh and not to mention we also have FMTV, our own online TV streaming channel which is basically the Netflix of health & wellness with nutrition documentaries, recipe videos and guided yoga & meditation sessions.
I’ve made my rounds of basically all the departments and now spilt my time between helping in business operations and with FMTV.
First impressions of Australia?
My first ever thought when I arrived was Wow…Aussie’s are laid back AF. I mean I had been told that they were but I guess I never really imagined it would be to this extent. After moving from Switzerland which it’s safe to say is the least possible laid back country in the world, this place is a frikin amusement park. People are friendly, not stressed, taking it easy, happy, open, welcoming, literally just absolute champions. And everything is easy. It’s like finally taking a seat, a deep breath and letting go after a what seems like ages of strain and stress (yes I know I’m 21 and have endured no real stress or worries in my life but still).
What’s the Aussie life like?
I can’t speak for all of Australia since I’m sure it’s different in the big cities, but at least for the Sunshine Coast, the lifestyle is definitely the healthiest I’ve ever seen. Everyone is constantly outside, walking, running, jogging by the beach, surfing the waves or hiking mountains. There are farmers markets everywhere where people crowd to spend sunny Sunday mornings talking to the producers and buying fresh, organic, local fruits and veggies. People say “hi” to each other in the streets and make conversation with the cashier. I know it sounds like a cartoon but it’s real life I swear. This is just how people live. It’s as if they just chose to be happy, kind and pleasant, and it’s made me think, why would you chose anything else?
Oh and on top of it all, it’s literally healthy foodie heaven, with juice bars and vegan cafes everywhere. LIKE WHY WOULD ANYONE LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE EVER?! It’s just beyond me.
Australia is now not only the beautiful little paradise where I live, but it is my home, and damn I’m blessed to be here. I had been told before how “amazing” it, but man, it’s even better than that. It’s like, super amazing.
